Experiential Learning

The Career Development offers a range of programming for Doane students to experience workplace environments and gain valuable insight about specific industries. These programs are ideal for students who are beginning to explore careers as well as for students who are preparing to launch a job or internship search. By participating in experiential learning, you will make valuable connections, gain clarity around your career goals, and leave with insights to help you launch a job or internship. 

Internships

We can help you learn and build on your academic work through an internship. Plus employers tend to hire people with internship experience (and hire their own interns).  Students may also complete an internship for credit.  An internship is work experience offered by a business or organization for a limited period of time.  Internships provide students with an opportunity to explore career interests while applying knowledge and skills learned in their courses.  Internships also help develop an understanding of general workplace practices while gaining valuable professional experience and establishing networks. Service-Learning

We provide support and assistance to departments, programs and individual faculty members seeking to integrate service learning or internship opportunities into their academic objectives.  Students interested in taking a service-learning course may take SVL 422, Service-Learning in a Democratic Society. In this course, students gain first-hand experience by participating in a service-learning experience with a community partner. The course will explore concepts related to civic responsibility, its role in a democratic society, and what it means to each individual student. Students draw upon their service experiences to inform discussion, written assignments, and research. For questions about the course, please contact stephanie.hemje@doane.edu.
