Benefits & When They Begin

Employee Benefits and Eligibility

For faculty contracts starting in August, your insurance benefits will begin on September 1st, with your first premium deducted from your August paycheck. 

For faculty contacts starting outside of August, your insurance benefits will begin on the 1st of the month, following your first contracted day of employment or on the first day of the month, if your contracted start of employment is on the first.

What is the dress code?

Our employees represent the face of the University to our students, alumni, and the community. Our dress attire should reflect a professional operated academic enterprise. Employees should dress in a clean, neat, and modest fashion. Dress appropriately for your department. 

Where do I go on my first day? 

Before your first day, the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) will advise you of where to meet for faculty orientation. Orientation is provided by the Office of Academic Affairs and Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). CETL will support new faculty for mentoring. You will receive a parking tag on or before your first day. 

When do I get paid? 

Faculty will be paid monthly (12 paychecks per year) on the last working day of each month. For faculty starting in the fall, your first paycheck will be on the last business day of July. 

Where can I find more procedures & policies? 

New faculty will be provided with a New Faculty Survival Guide, upon starting. 

You can access the Faculty handbook via a Google Doc accessed with your Doane email address. You can also access the Employee Handbook online. If you are not able to find what you were looking for or need further clarification, contact Academic Affairs or Human Resources. 

What if I have more questions? 

If you have other questions that you would like answered before your first day, contact your College Dean or the Office of Academic Affairs.

Break Rooms and Tiger Bucks

If you would like to bring your meal or snack from home, there are break areas provided for employees, typically including a refrigerator, freezer, microwave, and table space. Ask your supervisor for details about the break room closest to you. 

If you work on the Crete campus, you can join in the student dining experience (during the academic year) visit the dining hall, or sign up for the Tiger Bucks Program. This program provides 10% off OBC Grill and Lakeside Coffeehouse and in the dining hall, allows you to buy nine meals at a discount, and receive your tenth meal for free. 

There are snack and beverage vending machines available in some areas; check with your supervisor for the nearest location. There are also dining options available in the communities of each of our campus locations if you would like to leave campus for your meal break. 

Network Access, Doane Email, Technology & Equipment

For those starting in the fall you will receive an email before July 1st. This email will outline your Doane computer accounts and how to activate your Doane email.

For those starting outside of the beginning of the academic year, you will receive a computer accounts letter within three business days of your contracted start date. 

Doane University will provide you with a computer. If you have specific questions or requests regarding your computer needs, please contact Academic Affairs.
