Dr. Marci Malone DeAmbrose has been a Doane University adjunct voice faculty member since 2009. She also enjoys a career as a vocal music teacher at the middle school level for Lincoln Public Schools. Dr. DeAmbrose has over 10 years of classroom experience as a music educator. In addition to Lincoln Public Schools, she taught for the Blue Valley School District in Kansas and the Northside Independent School District in Texas. Previously, she served as an adjunct voice faculty member and director of the Women’s Choir at Concordia University in Seward, NE. While she was completing her terminal degree at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln, she taught introduction to music education, voice skills, beyond the concert choir, and served as a field experience supervisor.

Dr. DeAmbrose has worked with singers at the elementary, secondary, and post-secondary levels. To this end, her research interests span across all formal levels of music education. “Be the Change: A Case Study” researches the experiences of preservice music teachers participating in an inclusive and intergenerational community choir. Her convergent mixed methods study “All Are Welcome A Musical Journey” studies culturally responsive teaching strategies and cross-cultural teaching competencies in the elementary music classroom. “Choir Might Actually Save Your Life: A Convergent Mixed Methods Study” explores the attitudes and perceptions of eighth grade students toward singing and choir participation. Her research has been presented at the International Society for Music Education (ISME) World Conference, Music in Schools and Teacher Education Commission (MISTEC), Vision of Research in Music Education (VRME) Conference, Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA), and the Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) In-service Workshop.

Creative activity is also of great importance to Dr. DeAmbrose. She enjoys a performing career, including opera, music theatre, oratorio, various concert works, recitals, and master classes. The applied students in her studio at Doane have placed in both state and regional National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competitions. She is a member of the Nebraska Music Educators Association (NMEA), the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the National Association for Teachers of Singing (NATS), the International Association for Music Education (ISME), and the College Music Society (CMS). She is looking forward to using all of her various experiences to further the profession and promote making music by all.
