Measure 1: Completer Impact and Effectiveness

In addition to the data provided below, other plans for reporting data related to 4.1 are in process with a pilot program called COE Connect.   COE Connect is a follow up program for the initial programs’ early career teachers.   The activities conducted provide opportunities for data collection regarding specific reflections and incidents of documented P-12 student learning. These qualitative data will continue to be analyzed with plans for follow up interviews or focus groups to get additional specific evidence that can be used to support meeting the standard.  Data is expected to be analyzed following the 2022-23 academic year. 

Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) administers the Nebraska First Year Teacher Survey and Third Year Survey both to the principals and to the first year teachers or 3rd teachers (Spring 2023).  Evaluation indicators are based on Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) Model Core Teaching Standards, 2011.

First Year Teacher (FYT) Response Rates:
Doane University by principals is 46% and First year teacher survey by teachers is 40%.
Statewide FYT survey by principals is 54% and First year teacher survey by teachers is 46%.

1st Year Teacher - Doane (2022-2023 School Year):
First year teachers employed in the 2022-2023 school year are May 2022 graduate completers at the initial undergraduate level and completers in the Initial Certification at the Advanced Level during the 2021-2022 school year.

Third Year Teacher Response Rates:
Doane University 3rd year teacher survey by principals is 76% and 3rd year teacher survey by teachers is 44%.
Statewide 3rd year teacher survey by principals is 84% and 3rd year teacher survey by teachers is 50%.

3rd Year Teacher - Doane (2022-2023 School Year):
Third year teachers employed in the 20222-2023 school year are May 2020 graduate completers at the initial undergraduate level and completers in the Initial Certification at the Advanced Level during the 2019-2020 school year.

Summary of 1st Year Teacher Survey (2022-2023 School Year):  The above chart reflects principals’ responses to the question, “Would your consider this teacher effectively prepared for continuing employment in your district?”, 88% (15 of 17) of all principals responded “Yes” that Doane teachers are prepared.  The results of the first-year Doane teachers rating themselves as effectively prepared teachers shown above reflect 85% (11 of 13)  of them were confident that they were all prepared to be an effective first-year teacher.  Overall, responses reflect highly positive information for both principals and teachers, indicating the majority of the teachers are prepared.

Summary of 3rd Year Teacher Survey (2022-2023 School Year):  The above chart reflects principals’ responses to the question, “Would your consider this teacher effectively prepared for continuing employment in your district?”, 91% (20 of 22) of all principals responded “Yes” that Doane teachers are prepared.  The results of the first-year Doane teachers rating themselves as effectively prepared teachers shown above reflect 93% (13 of 14) of them were confident that they were all prepared to be an effective third-year teacher.  Overall, responses reflect highly positive information for both principals and teachers, indicating the majority of the teachers are prepared.

SUMMARY for 1st Year Teacher Survey (2022-2023 School Year): Principals were asked to evaluate first-year teachers’ impact on student learning.  29% (5 of 17) of all principals thought the teachers were highly effective.  However, 41% (7 of 17) of them rated them as moderately effective.  Overall, 71% of principals thought the teachers were moderately effective or highly effective.  The first-year teachers were asked to give a self-evaluation on student learning.  Only, 23% of all first-year teachers considered their impact as highly effective. However, 77% of them rated themselves as moderately effective teachers.

SUMMARY for 3rd Year Survey (2022-2023 School Year):  Principals were asked to evaluate third-year teachers’ impact on student learning.  50% of all principals thought the teachers were highly effective, and 36% of them rated them as moderately effective.  The first-year teachers were asked to give a self-evaluation on student learning.  57% of all third-year teachers considered their impact as moderately effective, and 36% of them rated themselves as highly effective teachers.  Overall, principals rated Doane candidates 86% on impact on student learning as moderately to highly effective.  While, third-year teachers rated themselves 93% moderately to highly effective on impact of student learning.
