Mathematics and Data Analytics Department

Prospective students should see more information on the Mathematics and Data Analytics program page.

Mission

Doane’s Mathematics and Data Analytics program transforms students into creative problem-solvers, communicators, and collaborators who are well-equipped to integrate their analytical skills in a wide variety of professions.

Students who major in Mathematics and Data Analytics will demonstrate logical and critical thinking skills and persistence, communicate mathematical arguments and results clearly, develop solutions to open-ended problems, the ability to gather information and evidence to support or refute arguments, and most importantly accurately describe the usefulness of mathematics in the world towards their intended audience and purpose. Many of Doane’s Math majors continue advanced studies in Mathematics, Education Engineering, Statistics, and more.

Calculus Credit by Examination

Beginning in the summer of 2021, the Mathematics and Data Analytics Department will be instituting a new policy where students can earn credit for Calculus by passing an exam. For more information, view our informational flyer here.

Teacher Education

Mathematics teachers are in high demand nationwide. Math Education graduates take 12 credits towards a Master's Degree the summer following graduation, adding extra value to their first year as a teacher.

Double Majors and Interests

Mathematics is the foundation other sciences are built on. It is an easy major to combine with other areas of study. Previous students' interests and double majors include:

  • Biomathematics
  • Biological Sciences
  • Computer Science
  • Computational Science
  • Economics
  • Engineering
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Political Science
  • Philosophy
  • And Art

Research Project

Each spring, senior math majors present their research at the Symposium in Undergraduate Mathematics to other students from colleges throughout the state.
